Responsible waste collection starts with the right information

Know who is collecting, explain what the waste contains and ask about the records for your job.

Know who is collecting your waste

The Waste Collection Company is part of the Cheaper Than a Skip group. The group’s website publishes waste carrier registration WCR/R/3011855. Ask the booking team to confirm the current registration details and the collecting business before your appointment.

SEPA now describes waste carriers as waste transporters. Its registration guidance explains how to check a registration, including where to look while its search service is being updated. A published number should be checked against the current record rather than treated as a guarantee on its own.

Keep usable items in use where possible

Before disposal, consider whether furniture or other belongings could be retained, repaired, sold or passed on. Acceptance by a reuse organisation depends on the item and its condition. Do not assume a donation is possible until the organisation has agreed it.

Zero Waste Scotland’s furniture guidance is a useful starting point. We do not publish an unverified recycling percentage for this brand.

Tell us what your waste contains

Separate household contents, electrical items, garden waste and heavy debris in your description. Declare liquids, gas cylinders, chemicals, suspected asbestos and any other uncertain material before booking. A standard collection does not automatically cover hazardous waste, specialist cleaning or secure data destruction.

Ask about collection records

Confirm which collection and transfer records will be supplied for your agreed job, particularly for business waste. Keep the quote and relevant collection details with your own records. For any specific regulatory requirement, check the current guidance or speak to an appropriate adviser.

Make the collection easy to assess

Clear photographs and an accurate list help the team plan the materials and loading. Our photo quote guide explains what to include without moving or opening uncertain waste.
