Loft clearance begins with a safe access check

Before anyone moves a box, the team needs to understand how the loft is reached. Describe the hatch, ladder or stairs, whether the floor is boarded and the available headroom. Photos of the entrance and storage area help establish whether a collection can be completed safely. Do not enter an unsafe loft to take pictures.

Know what is being removed

Long-stored boxes may contain photographs, documents or belongings you would like to keep. Allow time to identify those items before clearance. Tell us about bulky pieces that cannot fit through the hatch in their current form. Contents removal is different from insulation removal, pest treatment or work to the roof structure; those activities are not included in an ordinary loft clearance.

Plan the route through the house

Loft items may need to pass through bedrooms, a staircase and a hallway before reaching the vehicle. Identify obstacles and tell us about vulnerable flooring or particularly narrow turns. Keep the route clear but do not carry heavy or unstable loads down yourself simply to prepare. The collection team will confirm the access conditions, included work and any limits after reviewing the information.
